Team National - Grow Your Downline Smarter, Not Harder
All Leads Stink!
Greetings,
I remember a long time ago, when I was involved in my first or second networking business, that my upline suggested that I use "opportunity leads" to grow my downline. So I went out and dumped a bunch of money on the newest, hottest, straight-off-the-griddle-fresh opportunity leads. What happened?
It was a total waste of money. I couldn't get a hold of most of them, and of the few that I did talk to, they were not really all that interested in an opportunity at all.
So what did I do?
I spent more money on fresher, hotter, more expensive leads.
And that didn't work either. In fact, I got pretty much the same reaction as I got with the cheaper leads.
Hmmmm.
So if we are in a networking program, and we want to grow our business, people that are looking to be in business should be the type of person we go after, right?
No. Wrong.
The thing is that you don't get paid on how many people you have in your downline. You get paid on consumption of product in your distribution channel. You might have 14,859 distributors in your downline, but if they don't distribute anything, then you're hosed. Your company doesn't pay you based on how many people are registered in your downline. Your company pays you based on how many people in your downline are using your product each month.
This is why the whole "autoship" concept exists. It's the company's way of making sure that product is moving every month, which ensures that the company doesn't get spanked by the FTC for being a "pyramid scheme". In other words, movement of product is what separates a legitimate business from an illegitimate business. And the fact is that all leads stink.
So am I against purchasing leads?
NO WAY.
Leads are absolutely crucial to the success of a business. You should be up to your eyeballs in leads! The best is when you can generate your own leads for free. But this takes some time and knowledge to be able to do. So to start out, you need to find a lead that is already buying a product that is similar to what you have. And you need to find them dirt cheap.
Why?
Because people are habitual. Go look in your refrigerator. The type of food you have in your fridge right this minute is probably the same type of food that will be there 2 weeks from now. People buy things habitually. They don't like to change. Therefore, as marketers, if we want to know who wants our type of products or services are those people that are already using the same types of products and services.
And since all leads stink, we can't spend a bunch of money on those stinky leads. You should never pay more than $0.15 per lead, period.
Every once in a while, I get asked what the big "secret" to success is. Well, here's my answer:
There is no secret.
But there are easier ways and more difficult ways to be successful.
It's just like if you wanted to cross a river. There will be easier paths (shallow areas) to cross. And there will be more difficult paths (deeper areas).
The only difference, the only "secret", is the knowledge to know where those deep and shallow areas are. The best investment you will ever make is with a guide that knows how to keep you clear of the pot holes and on the most efficient, effective pathway to success.
